THE 9425 GEAR INSPECTION SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO INSPECT GEARS AUTOMATICALLY TO THE AGMA STANDARDS.  THE SYSTEM MEASURES THE INVOLUTE (PROFILE), HELICAL LEAD, AND INDEX VARIATION.  IT ALSO CALCULATES SPACING VARIATION, PITCH VARIATION, SPAN, SIZE OVER ROLLS, RUNNING CENTER DISTANCE WITH A STANDARD MASTER GEAR, AND PITCH-DIAMETER RUN-OUT ON INVOLUTE GEARS AND SPLINES, BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL.  THE SYSTEM CAN MEASURE A CLUSTER GEAR SYSTEM CONTAINING UP TO FIVE GEARS AND CHECK THE ALIGNMENT OF THE PART OF THE CLUSTER

                            THEORY OF OPERATION
THE SYSTEM IS A FIVE (5) AXIS SYSTEM, WITH FOUR(4)
AXES CONTROLLED BY THE CONTROLLER.  THE
COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM ARE AS FOLLOWS:
  1.  X-AXIS:  THIS AXIS, RESTING ON AIR BEARINGS,
       MOVES THE ROTARY TABLE TOWARD AND AWAY
       FROM THE INSPECTION PROBE AND IS
       CONTROLLED BY THE CNC CONTROLLER OR THE
       OPERATOR - MANIPULATED JOG BOX.  MOUNTED
       ON THE X-AXIS TABLE IS A TAILSTOCK WHICH
       CARRIES THE UPPER CENTER FOR CLAMPING
       THE PART.  THIS AXIS IS NOT CONTROLLED BY
       THE CNC, IT IS OPERATED ONLY VIA THE JOG BOX
  2.  A-AXIS:  THIS IS THE AIR-BEARING ROTARY TABLE
       MOUNTED ON THE X-AXIS TABLE.  THIS AXIS
       ROTATES THE PART DURING MEASUREMENT
       AND IS CONTROLLED BY THE CNC OR THE JOG
       BOX.
  3.  Y-AXIS:  THIS IS THE AIR-BEARING TABLE MOVING
       THE MEASURING PROBE FORWARD AND
       BACKWARD TANGENTIALLY TO THE PART BEING
       MEASURED.  THIS AXIS IS CONTROLLED BY THE
       CNC OR THE JOG BOX.
  4.  Z-AXIS:  THIS IS THE AIR-BEARING TABLE
       MAGNETICALLY CLAMPED TO THE Z-AXIS COLUMN
       AND RIDING ON THE Y-AXIS TABLE.  THE Z-AXIS
       MOVES THE MEASURING PROBE VERTICALLY TO
       THE HEIGHT AT WHICH MEASUREMENTS ARE TO
       BE TAKEN.  THIS AXIS IS CONTROLLED BY THE
       CNC OR THE JOG BOX.
  5.  JOG BOX:  THIS IS THE CONTROL PANEL WHICH
       ALLOWS THE OPERATOR TO POSITION THE X-Y-Z
       AND A  AXES AND THE TAILSTOCK MANUALLY.
  6.  ZERO BALL:  THE ZERO BALL IS THE PRIMARY
       MEASUREMENT REFERENCE POINT AND IS USED
       TO SET THE PROBE COORDINATES FOLLOWING 
       SYSTEM START-UP OR MANUAL MOVEMENT OF
       THE PROBE.
  7.  MEASUREMENT PROBE:  THE MEASUREMENT
       PROBE IS AN ANALOG TRANSDUCER USED TO
       MEASURE THE DEVIATION OF THE TESTED PART
       FROM ITS THEORETICAL IDEAL SHAPE.
